“I Got Up (Just Like John Sinclair Told Us To)” is a raw accounting of our real lived experiences and also a clarion call in every ear this song seeps into. You can actually hear the thunder of our elephants marching into battle on this track.
If we tell you to quit your job, sell your shit and disappear it’s because we did this and it set us free. If we tell you to climb over a mountain and wander into the wilderness it’s because we did this and it set us free. If we tell you to go to the desert and blindfold yourself and take two rocket boosters of LSD it’s because we did this and it set us free. You can make your life a struggle for liberation, and the only true liberation is liberation of consciousness. You must become wider than the frame. Only then is it possible to change our world, our culture, our society.

lyrics
I got up
Sold my shit
Told my boss I fucking quit
Kissed my family
Left my friends
Live my life before it ends
I got away
I got up
I got out
I got away
“Rock and roll,
LSD,”
don’t forget:
“fucking in the streets”
just like John Sinclair said
Revolutions start in your head
So get away
I got up
I got out
I got away

Sonic Youth is one of those bands where you easily run out of superlatives to describe what they created. This could've easily come off as a cynical cash-grab by a band that had broken up 11 years prior to the release of this record, but that's not what this is. Some of my favourite Sonic Youth instrumentals. sentient meat

More ambient and exploratory than their motorik-heavy debut, Dummy continues to evolve into a more confident band with its own distinct creative vision on EP2. Admo

Dummy comes out of the gate swinging. Traces of 90s heroes such as Stereolab and Lilys, 70s krautrock staples Neu! and Cluster, all combined with a distinct melodic sensibility elevate this all-too-brief EP. Admo
